What is a double wall cup?
A double wall paper cup consists of an inner cup that holds the drink and an outer paperboard layer wrapped around it. The thin air gap between the two layers slows heat transfer to the outside, so a hot drink can be held comfortably without a sleeve or a second cup.
The outer layer also gives the cup a sturdier, fuller feel and offers a smooth surface for custom printing.
Single wall, sleeve or double wall?
There are three ways to serve hot drinks:
- Single wall cup: lighter, with more cups per case; for example, at 8 oz a case holds 1,000 single wall cups versus 500 double wall cups.
- Single wall cup with a sleeve: lets you run seasonal campaigns by changing only the sleeve design.
- Double wall cup: a single item, with no accessories to stock, and a sturdier feel in the hand.
Which size for which drink?
Typical uses of the six sizes:
- 4 oz (100 ml): espresso and Turkish coffee
- 7 oz (180 ml): brewed tea and filter coffee
- 8 oz (240 ml): americano, small latte and takeaway coffee
- 12 oz (350 ml): latte, cappuccino and flat white
- 16 oz (450 ml): large latte, hot chocolate and salep
- 22 oz (about 650 ml): the largest size, for big hot drinks
Material, printing and packaging
Depending on size, the inner and outer layers are made from 260 + 280, 260 + 300 or 300 + 320 g/m² food-grade paperboard from FSC® certified sources. The outer layer can carry a full wrap-around print with your logo, slogan and menu information.
Case quantity is 1,000 for 4 and 7 oz and 500 for 8, 12, 16 and 22 oz. Container loading figures for 8 and 12 oz are listed in the datasheets on the product pages.
